First hair cut

I was committed... to never 'growing out bangs.' It seemed so preventable. If you don't cut bangs, you never have to negotiate the awkward barrette placement (ABP) and make-do dos that result from the process of growing them out. I saw first hand the struggles of my mother trying to slick back my sister's poker-straight lingering bangs for ballet. It did not work.

I was naive. I had dealt with the mini version of ABP for several weeks and I was fine. Clara, however, was not. I caved and cut her bangs when she cried because her hair was washing into her eyes during bath time. I think my mom was just waiting to see how long my bangless convictions lasted.
